To illustrate better what Pylon Studios does and to keep things relevant for our readers, this month's newsletter will be a case study of a multi-taking web site.

Case Study: How To Marry Form and Function, and Drive Revenue
Client: Blue and Gold Fleet
Project: New Web Site

Challenge:
Blue and Gold Fleet is best known for their ferry service to Alcatraz and back. Blue and Gold Fleet needed a site that could help them increase revenue through more ticket sales on the site, reduce cost by reducing the time it took to regularly update the site with new events and attractions, and improve their image with a site that reflected their updated identity.

Opportunity:
The team on this project consisted of copy writer James DeKoven; Six Feet Up, providing the technical back end and Pylon Studios for design, site organization and project management. All team members applied their collective marketing experience to the project.

Solution:
Our site planning process took into account all of the different products, services and information that Blue and Gold wanted to post on their site. The team developed broad categories for content flexibility and better navigation. We provided an interactive calendar that tied into Blue and Gold Fleet's ticketing system and improved the customer's experience buying tickets online.

We used hypertext instead of using images for navigation or ad copy to make everything visible to a search engine and aid in higher indexing. Everything from the body copy to the navigation to small ads for other services or events are in hypertext. Our emphasis on hypertext in the design made the entire site searchable.

Extra Benefits:
As a result, more people find the Blue and Gold site for more than just Alcatraz and more tickets for all offerings are sold online.

Blue and Gold Fleet now has a site that reflects their brand, reflects their excellent service to customers saves time and money, and increase their online sales.

Have a look at the site, try out the calendars, or better yet, take a Bay Cruise or a trip to Alcatraz. www.blueandgoldfleet.com
