Portfolio / web sites
Our designs focus first on how your site is structured and how your visitors move through it. The structure that we develop aids in creating the copy, designing the interface and the look & feel.

The home page alternates between to images, addressing the consulting and retail parts of Savantis Group's services.

Savantis Group
An SAP consulting and reseller to the retail industry, Savantis Group came to us for help in designing an attractive and functional new web site. We provided a new design and a Content Management System (CMS).

The previous Savantis Group web site had a CMS but it was extremely limited and not flexible enough to meet their needs. And though the design reflected their marketing collateral to some extent, the dark color palette did not effectively reflect Savantis Group's brand identity.

We worked with the Savantis Group team to come up with a lighter color palette, and created a more contemporary, business oriented web site that addressed the consulting and retail messages they wanted to project.

We also developed a site architecture that allowed visitors to access information quickly despite the various service offerings.

The content management system built in Typo3, an open source, PHP based system scaled to Savantis Group's needs, allowing the team members to use the CSM to drive their marketing messages

The web site has succeeded in better reflecting Savantis Group's brand identity and marketing collateral, and allowing them to have control over their messaging on the site.

Hathaway Dinwiddie–Sustainable building team
Hathaway Dinwiddie is a California based construction company, they came to us for help to develop a web presence for their sustainable building team. A large percentage of the company's professional staff are LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited. However, this part of their expertise was not being marketed or promoted. As more and more projects for states, counties, municipalities and businesses are requiring green buildings and building practices, it's more than important for a company to promote the expertise they have in order to win these projects.

Our suggestion was to build a mini site that could accomplish two goals:
  1. Focus on the sustainable building services and professionals that Hathaway Dinwiddie was not promoting on their main site
  2. Create an online presence for the sustainable building team without altering the main site or disperse the sustainable building team's message by shoehorning it into the main site.
By creating a mini site we could get into details that couldn't be explored on the main site. Although the mini site stands alone, there is a link to it from the main site's home page and the mini site links to the main Hathaway Dinwiddie site in the mini site's main navigation.

As a result the mini site successfully markets the sustainable building team with a look and feel that differs from the main site and content that focuses on the experience and expertise Hathaway Dinwiddie brings to the table.

San Francisco American Marketing Association
Pylon Studios was asked by the San Francisco Chapter of the American Marketing Association to create a new web site with a look and feel that graphically describes San Francisco but avoids overused imagery. We provided a look and feel, color palette and unique imagery of often overlooked scenes of San Francisco. The new site features a Job Bank, a Content Management System, a Calendar Of Events and a Membership Management System.

The Job bank allows job seekers to upload multiple resumes at no charge, receive email notifications about new postings and browse through open job descriptions using powerful search capabilities. Employers can post job descriptions and search through resumes by either typing keywords or using preset search criterias.

Powered by a Content Management System based on Plone, the new site also allows the non-profit organization to manage content by themselves. SFAMA volunteers post and edit information about upcoming events via a content managed calendar. The information is automatically syndicated to the Home page and displayed as a clickable mini calendar.

Finally, a Membership Management System manages access to specific areas of the site and manages job bank user registration, job bank user information and job bank user authoring privileges. It also manages editing rights for SFAMA's site administrators.

Valencia Green
Valencia Green is a financier for green building projects and green upgrades, such as loans for solar panels on a home. For this project we were asked to create a logo, color palette, letter head, business cards and a web site. The client wanted to be able to promote the business, educate customers about green building and promote events and information seminars that they sponsored or produced themselves. To do this they asked for features like a calendar to list events as well as other green building related events, a community page and a gallery to display photos from the events.

To achieve all these goals and put control of the web site content into the hands of our client; we suggested that the site include a Content Management System. The system we produced for the client based on Typo3, provided the means for dynamic content to be displayed in more than just one page, such as calendar information automatically syndicated to the home page.

The graphic design incorporated natural imagery combined with images of building materials and the built environment. The color palette was limited to a few colors to cut costs on printing but be consistent with the web site. Because of the limited palette we purposely left any form of green out of the color palette to focus more on the business and its message.

HarperOne–Pass One On
Pass One On is a promotional campaign by HarperOne an imprint of HarperCollins that publishes spiritual books. The campaign involved authors and readers. Each of the 16 authors selected for the campaign provided letters written by readers who experienced an epiphany, mind shift or were simply moved to take action to change their life. HarperOne gave each reader thirty copies of the book that inspired them and asked them to pass the books on to inspire others. They then asked the readers to report back on how they distributed the books and any outcome if any. Visitors to the site also had an opportunity to make comments.

The site contains author biographies, a letter written by each reader who received the books, what they did with the books, a link to browse the selected book on the HarperCollins web site and comments from site visitors. Because of the nature of what HaperOne wanted, we suggested developing the site using the blogging software Movabletype. By utilizing a blog format we were able to provide the functionality needed to post content and ask others to respond. Since the software is customizable we were able to create our own look and feel for the site and provide additional marketing content.

Sustainable Life Media
The team at Sustainable Life Media approached us with a unique request: design templates for the look and feel of their new web site built in Drupal. Although drupal has a number of templates to work with, none of them met the aesthetic requirements of the Sustainable Life Media team. We were asked to create a new drupal template for their site and come up with a color palette to work throughout the site for headers, copy, navigation, links and other content in the site.

We worked closely with Sustainable Life Media stakeholders to develop the look and feel, imagery, color choices and coded those changes into the Cascading Style Sheets and template formatting.

Gail Anderson & Associates
Gail Anderson & Associates (GA&A) is a museum management consulting firm based in the San Francisco Bay Area with thirty years of experience. Pylon Studios helped GA&A achieve an online presence with this web site.

Pylon Studios worked with the GA&A team through consulting, graphic design and implementation. We guided the client through the steps to develop content and copy for the site. We developed the graphic design, look and feel, and color palette through conversations and direction from the client.

The result is a web site that uses bold color and museum related imagery, and provides in depth information about GA&A and the services they provide.

Mary Farmer
Mary Farmer is a visual artist who works in encaustic (pigment and bees wax). Along with designing Mary's logo and collateral, we provided web site design and production.
Unlike other artist's web sites, we made sure that this site had both examples of Mary's work and copy describing the work and her process. Pylon Studios provided copywriting along with graphic design, html coding and advice.

The portfolio section of this site also stands out compared to other artist portfolio sites. We worked with Mary to make sure that her portfolio complimented her work and was easy to navigate for visitors to the site.

The end result is a site that looks good, is easy to navigate, has images that represent her work well and additional information about the artist and her work.

(Pro-Bono) Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Berkeley
Shepherd of the Hills is a small Lutheran congregation in Berkeley California. We were contacted by the church through friends to see if Pylon Studios would be interested in a pro bono project, a web site for the church.

Although not affiliated with the church, we decided to meet with Pastor Katie Hines-Shah to see if there was a good fit between the two organizations. After a successful meeting we both felt that we could work together to produce a new web site.

Pylon Studios provided consulting in site planning and appropriate content for the site, the graphic look and feel, navigation design, and html production. The web site banner is an abstraction of the stained glass of the church building and features images of the congregation.
